Crystal Dobbs is the Owner-Manager of Boll Weaver Yarns. With over 35 years of experience in the textile arts, she has a wealth of knowledge and skill to draw upon. A former production spinner, Crystal learned to spin yarns appropriate for knitted & woven fabrics. She has an excellent understanding of the properties of natural fibers and takes pride in guiding Boll Weaver customers in making the best yarn selections/substitutions for their projects.
She is also knowledgeable in knitting garments based on body measurements and swatching (her only knit book for 15 years was Zimmerman’s ‘Knitting Without Tears’ and a stitch dictionary). While she is comfortable with the mathematics of knitting, when teaching design classes she attempts to make this part of knitting as painless and comfortable for her students with math anxiety issues.
A former kindergarten/elementary teacher, Crystal provides textile classes with skill development sequentially planned and clearly presented. Crystal’s teaching style is calm, relaxed and patient as you learn to develop your skills. As you progress beyond basic beginning knit/weave/spin/dye techniques, Crystal encourages you to continue building your talent & skills and sign up for independent/technique/advanced classes to inspire your future creative endeavors.
