The felted projects below allow you to build your confidence as a knitter as you learn the basics of knitting. Enjoy learning to knit while developing your new skills and learn to maintain consistent gauge by repeating these projects a few times for family & friends.
BEGINNING KNITTING FELTED HAT: This class introduces the basics of knitting: long tail cast-on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, read a pattern, basic gauge, and how to handle circular and double point needles while knitting in the round. Learn to trust Boll Weaver’s mantra, “felting is our friend,” when you cover up your boo-boo’s by having a felting party.

MACHINE FELTED KNITTED BAG: This class is a great follow-up to the Felted hat class as it builds upon the basics of knitting: long tail cast-on, knit, purl, gauge, knit in the round. PLUS add these new skills: knit with beads, read a more complicated pattern, use double point needles to knit flat, change colors, bind off & pick up and knit. Finally, cover up your boo-boo’s by having a felting party. If you have lots of spare time you’ll be given the choice of working the bag in either of 3 heights. If not, plan to work the short or medium height.

MACHINE FELTED KNITTED BOOTIES: This is a basic cuff down sock pattern knitted oversize, then machine felted to fit your feet. The heel is the one most commonly used in published patterns (heel flap/heel/gusset). If you’ve never knitted socks this is a great introduction to sock construction as it’s easier to see what you’re doing because of the larger stitches, especially in the gusset area where you have to pick up stitches. These slippers are my favorite warm & fuzzy foot covering. While the knitting is simpler than a sock, it’s a challenging felting project, which we’ll do together in the 4th session. This is a GREAT follow up class after the beginning knit projects we offer at Boll Weaver!

MACHINE FELTING KNIT & CROCHET FABRIC: Join the last session of a Beginning Felt Hat, Bag or Bootie Class & learn how to achieve controlled shrinking of your hats, bags, slippers, vests or sweaters to achieve a professional finished look. Many published directions simplify this process so much that following them results in an unsatisfactory finished product that LOOKS handmade by a beginner. Learn to fine-tune machine felting for a quality finish you can be proud of!
INSTRUCTION FEE: $30 if you’re not currently signed up in a hat, bag or boot class.
DATES & HOURS: Wed, May 16, 6-9 pm
