A Dye Formula Book for Wool Fibers
An Excerpt from the Introduction:
Color is a wondrous and magical element of our lives.
Each color is uniquely individual. Hundreds of hue possibilities can be achieved through the blending of only two or three primary colors. You can buy over 100 different hues at great expense, or learn the math of how to create a hundred variations of cool and warm hues using only six colors. Change the values of these colors for literally hundreds of more hues. The numbers can again be dramatically increased by adding a hue’s compliment. In this book there are 314 color samples. More than 500 combinations were actually dyed through a progressive mathematical formula based on using two or three dye colors, but many were excluded from this book due to duplicate colors. As the progressions were in very small incremental steps, sometimes it would take three or four steps before my eye could discern a new color…
Crystal spent countless hours bent over dyepots, weighing dyes and yarns, mixing colors, and muttering to herself as she put together this incredible resource for serious dyers. With over 300 yarns hand-dyed and lovingly attached to the formula pages, you can see just what is necessary to get the color you want in your wool yarns.
The first run of books is limited to a mere 10, as the process turned out to be even more time-consuming than originally expected. If you’re interested in purchasing a copy, we highly recommend you do so now… the next batch will take a while to put together!
Washfast Acid Dyes from Pro Chemical Company were used in the dye process.
